St. Mark’s is a caring and enthusiastic community of believers seeking to proclaim the Gospel and provide a welcome, nurturing environment where all can experience the help, hope and love of Jesus Christ. We are located in North St. Paul, a northeast suburb of St. Paul, Minnesota. Our church has about 3,000 members and offers weekly traditional and contemporary worship services, Bible studies, and Christian education as well as many opportunities to get together for fellowship and fun! At St. Mark's, there is a place for all who seek God. Whether you are young, old or somewhere in the middle; a long-timer believer or someone who is new to faith, we invite you to check us out and see how we can help you add joy and meaning to your life and faith experience. St. Mark’s can trace its history back to the fall of 1887 when a congregation of seven began meeting at the corner of 14th Avenue and Margaret Street in North St. Paul. A small wooden church was soon erected and on June 27, 1890, the fledgling congregation was officially incorporated. The early years for St. Mark’s mirrored those of the nation struggling with wars and the Great Depression; some years brought hardship for the church while others saw growth. In the Roaring Twenties, the church basement was added and a church parsonage built. One hundred and eighty members gathered to celebrate St. Mark’s 50th anniversary. The congregation gained momentum and a new brick church was dedicated at 12th Avenue and Margaret Street, across from North St. Paul High School, on November 27, 1952. Membership growth prompted the construction of a spacious new sanctuary in 1989, just as the church celebrated its 100th anniversary. Expansions and updates to this facility continue as St. Mark’s evolves to meet the changing needs of our faith community, based on the unchanging belief that Jesus, His promise of eternal salvation, and His call of evangelism are what gives meaning to our everyday existence. |
